The concept of the phrase T.L.C. is probably not new to many people. Even though the 3 words that may come to mind is “tender”, “loving”, “care”, it is not meant to reflect the work that a property needs to bring it to a saleable condition.
Early in my real estate career I learned that this acronym symbolizes something very different for success in any business. To me the words that come to mind in my real estate business is “Trust, “Like” and “Confidence”.
Why? Because in any economic market, the factors that must be present whether working with clients or working between colleagues, ultimately people must “Trust” you, “Like” you and have “Confidence” in you.
- Listening and being focused to clients needs builds trust, builds value and lowers sales resistance. Ask questions and genuinely be interested in listening to them. I have heard of talking yourself out of a sale but never heard of someone listening themselves out of a sale. When working with a colleague, be professional and take the time to connect. You never know when the roles will be reversed;
- Develop the “like” part by treating others as you want to be treated. Maintain a cheerful positive attitude focused on making the buy and sale process seamless, go above and beyond, under promise and over deliver and just be real. People are naturally attracted to sincere people;
- Build Confidence by being credible. Never compromise your integrity, be a student of your business, be prepared, display a professional personal and marketing presentation and stand true to your word.
Everyone has a reputation and its up to us to have a positive one. As large as the industry is, the professionals that demonstrate T.L.C. rise to the top. They’re truly much fewer. They’re typically the ones that make the business look easy, receive many referrals from clients and even out of town realtors. They’re the ones that when a For Sale comes up, other realtors look forward to dealing with that individual. They know how they will be treated and how the offer presentation will be handled. Always professionally, fairly and with the best interests of their clients at heart. Practicing T.L.C. is as easy as One, Two, Three and means that you are client focused, strive for excellence, have a great deal of self respect. These attributes stretch far beyond the business world
