Its been said that “the moment you think you know everything is when you know nothing” Quote by Jayce O’Neal
The market has continued to outperform the year over year analyst’s predictions and 2013 is looking to be another fantastic year for real estate ownership. Some may assume that over 24 years in the business provides me the ability to possibly predict the market, share what it takes to succeed and the ins and outs of the business. However the years of experience can also create a presumed way of doing business (the as we always did it mentality), ignore the fast changing technology and shift in market and consumer expectations.
Let’s face it, over 25 years ago we focused on “responsibilities and obligations”. It was all about high touch, pick up the phone, hit the pavement activities. We communicated face to face (there was no other choice) and therefore very personal in our approach. We just didn’t have the tools that provided this reach.
Today some say it’s about “entitlement and expectation”. Today’s consumer is using mobile devices, the latest technology, expect the information yesterday or on to the next and agents are no longer considered the gate keepers of information. To put things in perspective, my daughters don’t know what a record player is and APPLE no longer include CD disk drives in their computers……Fast changes!
Agents that have just entered the business or are simply newer agents have embraced and know how to handle today’s consumer. They have no predetermined way of doing business and embrace today’s tools. They are very effective in using the latest technology, social media platforms and market themselves as highly mobile and on the go.
The seasoned professionals have seen and experienced tougher markets where sharp skills matter. High touch and personal service is key. Even though used, there is less emphasis on technology and focus on work that most won’t do to create results. They spend on personal marketing and branding that may include print (some call it traditional) while focused on repeat and referral business.
Success comes from a combination of many skills and a constant learning mindset that accepts that change happens and never feel threatened of not knowing everything. Simply always open to learning. What creates an amazing brokerage is on a daily basis witnessing these true professionals whether newer or seasoned creating synergy together.
