How true that our inner beliefs become a self-fulfilling prophecy! Great for you that you benefitted from that life changing "no" from your dad. I too had a similar epiphany when I was a bit lighter and a bit younger! Believing in ourselves is the first step toward everything! Good for you - I am always rooting for you!

I understand your sentiments on selling your own home. I just went through selling a home I lived in for a couple years, and leased it out for a couple more. It is a taxing experience, which makes me appreciate what my clients go through when they sell a home. Congrats on your decision. I will probably hire an experience RE/MAX agent to sell my personal residence on our next move.

Regards,

Congrats on the sale of your home Tim. And double congrats on an article that is very timely.

Having sold my own home a few years ago while working as a REALTOR, I agree 100% with everything you said.

Every REALTOR should walk a mile in a Seller's shoes!

Interesting post… In the perspective of trying to scare a homeowner into doing something they didn’t want to do in the first place… Use a realtor. The information highway has more information available regarding ALL aspects of selling and buying than any one realtor can know. All it takes is a few hours of reading, searching, researching and sorting through forums to see what can go wrong and how to avoid it. yes it might take a couple weeks of non stop computer use after work , but what it comes down to is: are you prepared for the amount of work involved, time commitment is critical. But like said, it's the largest transaction if your life, don't you want to be prepared ? 3% of any house is a lot of potential money to save. It's very tempting, but it's not rocket science either. Basic sales rules still apply...there are regulations and laws to protect sellers and buyers, no matter method of transaction. So stop scaring people and pretending to educate them. Everyone in sales can see right through it. Not everyone is as stupid and unprepared as you think. Your silly questions asking them if know abbreviations for industry lingo is lame. But you do whatever it takes to rack up more sales to feed the greed.

I want to applaud you for writing this article. I agree 100%. I've seen people go through this process of selling privately and have been told by them how stressful they found it, how unreliable possible buyers were, yet they still felt they wanted some guidance and information from a real estate professional but were not even willing to sit down and talk to a realtor to see how they could make a difference in the time the seller(s) invested, in the facilitation of the entire process, by being represented by a professional to avoid costly errors and to make it as stress-free as possible for the seller(s) and his or her family.
